    The Neurosurgeon

Duties and Responsibilities: Neurosurgeons perform surgery on the brain, spinal cord, and the peripheral nerves to remove the tumors, or relieve chronic pain, treat wounds, and vascular diseases. They focus mainly in the nervous system because of the brain. They also do surgery to relieve hydrocephalus which is the abnormal buildup of fluid in the brain. Brain surgeons may also focus on the correction of diseases and deformities of the patient.

Salary: median salary is $559,255

Education: They are required to have a medical degree and a neurosurgery residency but before starting the residency training you have to complete 4 years of undergraduate school followed by 4 years of medical school. Neurosurgeons usually take about 6-7 years of neurosurgery residency training.

Reflection: In my opinion I would not like to become a neurosurgeon because it takes a long time to achieve this career. The pay is very good but involves a lot of science to become one. Another reason I wouldn’t like to be a neurosurgeon is because I would like to focus mainly on the heart and not the brain.
