Christopher Columbus

Columbus Day is a national holiday in many countries in the Americas and somewhere which officially celebrates the anniversary of Christopher Columbus. Columbus day is when we honor the discovery of the Western Hemisphere by Christopher Columbus and the beginning of the European colonization. Christopher Columbus was the man that discovered the “New World” of the Americans in the expedition sponsored by King Ferdinand of Spain in 1492. Explorer and navigator Christopher Columbus was born in 1451 in the Republic of Genoa, Italy. He had his first voyage to the Atlantic Ocean in 1476 that trip was very dangerous it almost caused him his life. On his first expedition Columbus was attacked by French privateers off the coast of Portugal. Columbus and his people made a journey to visit the islands of Cuba Hispniola and meeting with leaders of the native population.  Columbus led his three ships to The nina,the pinta, and the santa maria out of the spanish port of Palos on August 3 1442.  Columbus discovered the southern ‘’Trades’’ that in the future would fuel the sailing ships to the new world.
